And weeeeee're off!

Sitting at the end of a little road in Santa Fe, we checked to see that we had our passports, tickets, euros, etc. A man walked up and asked if we needed help. He said people stopped there all the time, lost, with their maps spread out, and he helped them. We said, no, we were just making sure we had our euros because we were leaving Right Now for Europe! What a nice guy.

Ran to WalMart in Albuquerque to pick up a fabric thing for Elin (who lives near Hella in Iceland). We were going to pick up a rotisserie chicken to eat in the hotel room, since it was 5pm and dinner time, but they told us the chicken wouldn't be ready for an hour.

Plan B: look for a restaurant or grocery store on the way to the hotel. Found an Applebee's, but it was on the wrong side of the road in a construction zone, so we continued, and found a Village Inn next door to the hotel. Went in, we were one of three tables seated. Ordered. Waited (read the Tuscany Road Tour book while we waited) and waited. After 40 minutes (we were distracted by the Tuscany book) we asked about our food. (The lady in the next booth got seated and served in about 10 minutes.) From what I could tell of the rushings and pokings at computers and whatnot, our order never actually made it to the kitchen.

The waiter told us they were working on our order. We said "never mind," and left. Went to the hotel (next door), checked in and looked up Applebee's online. Called in an order (two quesadilla burgers, por favor), drove down one block, pulled into their curbside pickup and had the food delivered to my car window. Fifteen minutes from ordering, we were eating - yum!

Got stuff done in the hotel room, like making magnetic business cards with the NM state flag and our names, to give to people. Printed out some NM maps because the last time I was in Iceland I drew NM maps constantly to give to people because they asked me where the heck New Mexico is.

The wind is blowing like mad, and it was slamming the hotel room door against the latch constantly, so I wedged a towel in the door jam to keep it from slamming. That wedged enough of a gap in the door opening so that we have a constant New Mexico "breeze" coming through the door. Won't need the air conditioning tonight here at the "Comfort" Inn.

Tomorrow: out the door at 6am for a 7:20am flight just down the block at the Sunport.
