Reykjavik is such a colorful city, with brightly colored buildings everywhere.
We figured out the bus schedule and necessary transfers, bought tickets from the visitor's center, and went down to Perlan to see the "Saga Museum." This is an historical exhibit, mostly designed for visitors to Iceland, it seems (since all Icelanders will know the stories told here). The exhibit is composed of life-sized and very life-like historical figures in re-created settings, depicting scenes from the Sagas. Here's Snorri Sturluson, looking pensive. The museum folks had him set up so it looked like he was breathing - we kept expecting him to blink, he looked so real.
In the evening, we visited with various cousins. We socialized and ate a fantastic dinner of salmon, yummmmmmmmm, with new potatoes and salad, plus a rhubarb compote for dessert. The salad greens and rhubarb came from our hosts Sigrun and Ari's garden.
Here's cousin Snorri and his wife Maria, after dinner.
Today we'll try to meet up with some more friends in the area, then head north.
It's extremely windy today - the wind woke me up around 5am. I hope the weather clears up for our visit to the Westfjords!
